Resident ConductorColin Clark Colin started playing with the Tanunda Town Junior Band (SA) at age of six on tenor horn, moving to soprano four years later. At age ten he began his A grade career with the Kensington & Norwood City Band (SA), where he worked with one of New Zealand’s finest players, Kevin Joughin. An invitation to join the prestigious Hawthorn Band took Colin to Victoria in 1997, where he studied at the Victorian College of the Arts. In 2001 he signed with Dalewool Auckland Brass and first joined the New Zealand Navy Band. In 2004 he moved to Christchurch and the soprano chair at Woolston Brass and soon after joined the New Zealand Army Band. He returned to Auckland and the Navy Band in 2008 after the birth of his daughter, Isabella. Colin has a performance repertoire across disciplines as diverse as jazz to the classics but his first choice has always been brass bands. Four times Australian Junior Champion of Champions, winner of numerous state and national solo championships on both sides of the Tasman, Colin has represented both Australia and New Zealand in national bands since the age of 15. Colin’s inspiration is the renowned soprano virtuoso Peter Roberts. An able and experienced musician, Colin is the resident conductor for Dalewool Auckland Brass. He is an important part of the band’s development over the years ahead as he will work closely with Rupert D’Cruze, the bands musical director, taking the band on its next exciting chapter. |
